Below is a list from Website Magazine's February 2008 issue of the most popular websites based on traffic.

I've provided links to my favorites, along with a brief description of all 50.

  1. Google.com -- the number one search engine has become the number one website because of many free new features, most notably their iGoogle homepages.
  2. MSN.com -- Microsoft's ISP ranks second because many new computers arrived with this preset as their homepage.
  3. Yahoo.com -- the first major web directory has become a massive community portal
  4. Live.com -- Microsoft's interactive community designed to combine the best features of Google, Yahoo, and MSN
  5. YouTube.com -- the user video community with everything from personal video blogs to professionally produced mini movies
  6. Microsoft.com -- the home page for the software giant
  7. AOL.com -- at one time the largest ISP in the world, AOL has now become focused on advertising revenue and free portal content
  8. eBay.com -- the largest and most profitable auction site has become a combination of the world's largest department store with the world's largest garage sale
  9. MySpace.com -- the larger social networking site is hugely popular among teenagers and young adults
  10. Google.co.uk -- the British Google
  11. Passport.com -- Microsoft's unified login service
  12. Wikipedia.org -- an open-source encyclopedia, with more entries than any encyclopedia on the planet, and most of them are even factual
  13. Ask.com -- the former Ask Jeeves is rapidly becoming a favorite among Web searchers
  14. Comcast.net -- the default homepage for Comcast, the largest cable provider and ISP in the US
  15. BBC.co.uk -- The British Broadcasting Company homepage
  16. Google.ca -- the Canadian search engine, eh
  17. BellSouth.net -- the largest DSL provider, serving much of the Southeast United States
  18. Facebook.com -- the second largest social networking site is popular among college students and tech firms
  19. Amazon.com -- the world's largest book store has become a virtual department store with the largest and most sophisticated logistics engine behind it
  20. Google.co.in -- the Indian version of Google search one of the largest populations of tech savvy people in the world
  21. CNN.com -- the home page for Cable News Network
  22. BlogSpot.com -- serving hundreds of thousands of blogs, this is the default domain for blogger.com, owned by Google
  23. Pogo.com -- Electronic Arts free/member casual gaming site
  24. MSN.ca -- MSN Canada
  25. About.com -- a portal for advice columns, be warned it is heavily populated with pop-up ads
  26. Mapquest.com -- the largest stand-alone site for road maps and directions, its biggest competitors are Google and Yahoo
  27. eBay.co.uk -- the British version of eBay is popular throughout Europe
  28. AIM.com -- America Online's Instant Messenger service is still one of the most popular
  29. rr.com -- Roadrunner is one of the largest dial-up ISPs in the country
  30. Weather.com -- rain or shine, weather.com can show you the way
  31. Download.com -- free software, trial software, demo software, and updates are all available here
  32. Adobe.com -- home page for the makers of Acrobat, Photoshop and Dreamweaver
  33. Craigslist.com -- the not-for-profit free classified ad service organized by locale
  34. NetZero.net -- one of the largest ISPs in the country
  35. RuneScape.com -- popular online game
  36. Freeze.com -- ad server which lures people with free wallpaper and screen savers
  37. Broadcaster.com -- a video hosting provider with free software
  38. CartoonNetwork.com -- the homepage for Cartoon Network has lots of games and original content
  39. Miniclip.com -- provider of many flash games syndicates many of its games to other websites, boosting its popularity
  40. Walmart.com -- the online shopping portal of the retail giant
  41. Geocities.com -- owned by Yahoo, offers free Web hosting subsidized by advertising
  42. IMDB.com -- The Internet Movie Database, owned by Amazon
  43. Google.com.au -- Google Downunder (Australia)
  44. Rediff.com -- a portal focused on Indian culture
