Below is a list from Website Magazine's February 2008
issue of the most popular websites based on traffic.
I've provided links to my favorites, along with a
brief description of all 50.
- Google.com -- the number one
search engine has become the number one website because of many free
new features, most notably their
iGoogle homepages.
- MSN.com -- Microsoft's ISP ranks second because many new
computers arrived with this preset as their homepage.
- Yahoo.com -- the first major
web directory has become a massive community portal
- Live.com -- Microsoft's interactive community designed to
combine the best features of Google, Yahoo, and MSN
- YouTube.com -- the user
video community with everything from personal video blogs to
professionally produced mini movies
- Microsoft.com -- the home page for the software giant
- AOL.com -- at one time the largest ISP in the world, AOL has now
become focused on advertising revenue and free portal content
- eBay.com -- the largest and
most profitable auction site has become a combination of the world's
largest department store with the world's largest garage sale
- MySpace.com -- the larger social networking site is hugely
popular among teenagers and young adults
- Google.co.uk -- the British Google
- Passport.com -- Microsoft's unified login service
- Wikipedia.org -- an open-source encyclopedia, with more entries
than any encyclopedia on the planet, and most of them are even
factual

largest populations of tech savvy people in the world

- BlogSpot.com -- serving hundreds of thousands of blogs, this is
the default domain for blogger.com,
owned by Google

free/member casual gaming site

- About.com -- a portal for advice columns, be warned it is
heavily populated with pop-up ads
- Mapquest.com -- the largest stand-alone site for road maps and
directions, its biggest competitors are Google and Yahoo
- eBay.co.uk -- the British version of eBay is popular throughout

- AIM.com -- America Online's Instant Messenger service is still
one of the most popular
- rr.com -- Roadrunner is one of the largest dial-up ISPs in the
country
